World-Class Tennis Returns To Edgbaston

The Aegon GB Pro-Series travels from Tipton to the Indoor Tennis Centre at Edgbaston Priory Club for the next round – and entry is totally free for spectators.

Marcus Willis is the highest ranked player on the entry list and will be hoping to add to his tally of three ITF Pro Circuit singles titles this year at the tournament which runs from 27 October – 2 November 2013.

Willis will be joined in the Main Draw by a number of British direct acceptances, including Joshua Goodall, who won the ITF Pro Circuit title in Sunderland earlier this month, taking his career record of singles titles to twenty. Joshua ‘did the double’ at Sunderland, by winning the doubles title with Harry Meehan, to increase his total of ITF Pro Circuit doubles titles to two in 2013.

Established doubles pair and Australian Open Junior Doubles Champions of 2012, Liam Broady and Joshua Ward-Hibbert, also feature in the Main Draw singles acceptance list. Liam won his first ITF Pro Circuit singles title in Sheffield in September 2013 and will be looking to add to this tally. Liam and Joshua have combined to win four ITF Pro Circuit doubles titles, with Josh winning two further titles this year with Andrew Fitzpatrick.

There will be local interest in the Main Draw, with Warwickshire’s Andrew Fitzpatrick hoping to add to the ITF Pro Circuit title he won earlier this year on clay in Edinburgh.

Warwickshire will also have representation in the Qualifying event, in the form of Jathan Malik who will be looking for good results and qualification for Main Draw. Jathan earned his first World Ranking point in March this year and is currently at a career high ranking of 974.

Tournament Director, Sarah Wooding said : “I am looking forward to another great week of international tennis at the Edgbaston Priory Club’s indoor tennis centre, following the Women’s ITF Pro Circuit event in April and we expect a high standard of tennis.

“Spectators are welcome, admission is free of charge and it is a great chance to see some of the best up and coming players compete at a local venue.”

Qualifying takes place on 27 and 28 October before the main draw starts on 29 October, when all first round main draw singles and doubles matches will take place. The doubles final will be played on Friday 1 November, with the singles final on Saturday 2 November when play will start at 11am.
