Henley Tennis Club held its annual Open Day on Saturday 9th April and the offer of free play for everyone attracted over 70 people to join in the fun and games.
Older Juniors were able to benefit from tips and guidance from a qualified coach and learn more about improving their game while the younger ones got involved in Mini Tennis, an exciting programme from the LTA sponsored by Highland Spring. Ten young players also signed up for a brand new group as part of the Davis Cup Legacy, which means they’ll benefit from a free six week coaching programme and a free racket.
A record number of adults joined in the Tennis Xpress session to learn the basics and had a great match at the end of the session, showing how quickly they picked up tips from coaching.
Having dodged the April showers and following light refreshments, lots of people still had some energy left, so great fun was had in the Cardio Tennis session for kids and parents. A great workout and this new session is now being held every Sunday (2.30pm - 3.30pm).
What’s next?
A new Tennis Xpress course, aimed at beginners or those returning to tennis after some time out, is now being scheduled. It will take place on Wednesdays 9:30am – 10:30am and you can sign up now to get your first session free.
As a follow up to Open Day, the Club will be celebrating the Great British Tennis Weekend on Sunday 15th May, so why not come along and play tennis for free. There will be coaching sessions for Mini Tennis and juniors from 10am - 11am and from 11am - 2pm there will be free play for all.
The Club summer season starts in earnest on Thursday 12th May with an evening mixed tournament. All Members are welcome and refreshments will be provided. Full details are on the Club notice board.
