Wiltshire Annual County Tennis Awards

Wiltshire LTA honoured Clubs and Players at their Annual County Tennis Awards Ceremony that took place after the AGM that was held at Marlborough Golf Club on Tuesday 2nd December. Local County Awards were presented by Sir Geoffrey Owen, Wiltshire LTA President.  A photo of the Award winners is attached.  Please see winners below:

CLUB OF THE YEAR 2014 was awarded to Calne Tennis Club.  Calne TC is a friendly and welcoming club and offers a varied coaching and activity programme and a great social programme.

Calne TC have worked tremendously hard over the last 3 years actively fundraising for their move to their new home at Beversbrook.  They successfully secured funding from Sports England, Viridor Credits, Hills Landfill and Section 106 money to enable their facility project to go ahead. Julie Jones, LTA Participation Manager says, “This club strongly deserves this award for all their hard work in securing a new home.  A fantastic achievement by all of the club committee”

OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO TENNIS IN WILTSHIRE 2014 went to Tony Clark from Chippenham TC.  Tony is a dedicated volunteer and has been involved at Chippenham TC for over 16 years.  Tony joined the committee in 2000 and became Club Secretary in 2004 and Chairman in 2010.  Tony has worked tirelessly promoting the club, deals with day to day enquiries and is a great support to the Head Coach.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2014 was jointly awarded to husband and wife Sue & John Kirkman from Malmesbury TC.  Sue and John have sat on the club committee for over 2 decades.  Sue held the role of Treasurer for 23 years and John has been a huge help to the club over the last 2 decades and has project managed the re-surfacing of courts and is managing the building of new courts and floodlighting.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2014 went to Ema Lazic from Next Generation Swindon.  Ema has had a fantastic and very successful 2014 and represented Great Britain in the IC Junior Challenge Worldwide Finals 2014 at Wimbledon in 2014.  Ema has had lots of success in the ITF junior circuit with wins and runner-up places in Malta, Luxembourg, Portugal, France, Cyprus & Spain and her Junior ITF ranking has risen from 617 to 168.  Ema is only 15 years of age but has a LTA rating of 3.1 and has represented the County at junior and senior level

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2014 was awarded to Sophie Clark from Next Generation SwindonSophie has had a very successful year  and has increased her rating from 5.2 to 4.1 over the course of the year and has achieved a national ranking of 20 at 14U.  Sophie has represented the County at 14’s, 18’s and Ladies County Cup in 2014, works hard, is committed and is a wonderful role model to young players across the County

TEAM OF THE YEAR 2014 – Wiltshire Ladies Team.  This County Team is a group of young ladies who have created a fantastic team spirit and ably captained by Becky Prince from Swindon. The team have gained successful promotions two years in a row at Winter County Cup and last week played in Group 4 and narrowly missed out on promotion to Group 3.  Phil Evans, County Chairman, said “this young team are a credit to our County and we are very proud of their success”
