The Wiltshire Teams competed in the AEGON 12U County Cup Event on 29th & 30th June.
BOYS TEAM - Taunton– 29th & 30th June.
Team: - Tommy Dearsley, Alex Heaps, Ethan Miller and Matthew Harris
Captain: – Steve Yeardley
The Boys played at Taunton Tennis Club in Group E with teams from Cornwall, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Avon and Devon.
On the first day we beat Cornwall 3-1 winning all our singles but losing our doubles matches. We then played Gloucestershire and went down 3-1 in a spirited hard working match. As we came second in the group, we had qualified for the Semi-final against Avon. Unfortunately we lost 3 tight singles and further lost the doubles. We then played in the 3/4 playoff against Somerset which we lost 3-1 meaning we finished 4th.

GIRLS TEAM - Devizes – 29th & 30th June.
Team: - Nimah Townsend, Harriet Eyles, Isobel Claridge and Jessica Doerr

Saturday 29th June
The team arrived in good spirits and we had a good warm up before the event started. Cornwall and Gloucestershire were in our group. At the end of all the singles we were still in with a chance to win our group. We were 2-1 up against Gloucestershire and 2-1 down against Cornwall. In the last rubber against Gloucestershire Isobel and Niamh produced some great doubles securing us a semi-final place the following day. We did not have such luck against Cornwall, losing the doubles and therefore losing to Cornwall 3-1 in rubbers meaning we came 2nd in our group.
Sunday 30th June
After coming 2nd in the group from Saturday we were due to play the winners from the other group which happened to be Avon. This was going to be a much tougher match, due to a strong team plus we were without Harriet on this day due to injury. However the girls battled on; Niamh won her singles in no time! Whilst Isobel and Jessica had tough matches but gave it their all. Fantastic effort from Jessica especially, her first 1st singles match on yellow ball.
Wiltshire were 2-1 down after the singles and had it all to play for in the doubles – the captain had a difficult decision to make regarding who to play in the doubles. After seeing how well Jessica and Niamh played on Saturday together, the bond seems natural. They both played brilliantly winning their doubles. We were now tied so we had to play a shoot-out, which Wiltshire won therefore making it to the final. Great effort from all the players.
Cornwall fell short to Somerset meaning it would be a Wiltshire and Somerset Final. Niamh, Isobel and Jessica gave it everything they had in the final, unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough and Somerset won 3-1.
Well done to all – Niamh proved consistent throughout the weekend winning all her singles matches, Isobel remained positive and fought hard over the weekend and Jess did extremely well to step up and performed well.
I would like to thank everyone for their efforts including parents and support we had over the weekend and to the County for their continued support.
