Wiltshire’s 12U Boys & Girls Tennis teams both qualify for the National Finals in Bolton!

Wiltshire’s 12U Boys and 12U Girls team both won their qualifying groups at the AEGON 12U County Cup last weekend 27th & 28th June and have qualified for the National Finals in Bolton taking place on 11th & 12th July.

The Boys team are captained by Will Baillie, Head Coach at Devizes TC, and played their qualifying event at Burnham-On-Sea. The team is Oliver Martin (Team Bath), Edred Opie (Next Generation Swindon/Chippenham TC), Stanley Brown (Next Generation Swindon) and Rio Moss (Riverside TC, Salisbury). In the group stages, the team lost to Cornwall 4-5 but then beat Avon 6-2 to move into the semi-finals. In the semi-final the boys beat Devon 6-2 and then won the Final by a tie-break shootout v Avon to win 5-4! The boys showed great team spirit and efforts all weekend and to win their group was a tremendous achievement.

The Girls team played their qualifying event at Devizes TC and are captained by Steve Yeardley, Head Coach at Next Generation Swindon. The team is Amelia Bissett (TeamBath), Jessica Doerr (Next Generation Swindon), Ellen Jones (Next Generation Swindon) and Beatrice Watts (Devizes TC). The girls played fantastically well all weekend and didn’t drop a set in their group matches v Cornwall and Avon and won both matches 8-0 to move into the semi-finals. In the semi-final the girls played Gloucestershire and again won 8-0 and in the final beat Somerset 7-1. A comprehensive and stunning performance from all the girls.

All the players from both teams played magnificent tennis during the weekend and were expertly captained by Steve Yeardley and Will Baillie and now play in the AEGON 12U County Cup National Finals in Bolton.
