Downton Tennis Club serving the community at their Open Day

Downton Tennis Club recently held a very successful Open Day/Beacon Launch at the club and invited the local community and local schools.  

The club were awarded Beacon Status earlier in the year in recognition for their efforts to deliver to the whole community and their commitment to do more to engage with new markets making the sport as accessible and as affordable as possible.

Over 82 people attended and Adults and children were all busy with coaching, ball machine and various tennis related activities.  Members made cakes and served tea and coffee and a number of adult and child membership were "sold" on the day as well as a full back-to-basics course.

"We are delighted with the turnout to today's event.  And crucially, we have been able to show case our excellent facilities and our outstanding coaching to the local community.  We look forward to welcoming lots of new members" Alaistair Bushby, Chair person of Downton Tennis Club stated.

Andy Trott, LTA Tennis Development Officer for the South West said “The committee have worked really hard backstage to create and promote a fantastic family friendly open day to give all in the community the chance to have a go at the sport and a taste for what it would be like to be a member at the club. The activity on the day catered to all levels and the outcome has been new interest, new members and new sessions, a great success.”  

Ben Finnie, 9 years, new junior member and attendee on the day says "It was great fun.  I really liked the coach, he was really encouraging, and the ball machine was fun too"!
