A troupe of young tennis players demonstrated their skills at a special indoor display in County Hall, Trowbridge on Friday April 26 2013.
A section of The Atrium at County Hall featured a mini tennis court, so a group of eight and nine year old players could have a coaching session and a tennis match.
The event was inspired after local tennis player Joseph Milton, 8, wrote a letter to the council setting out his plans and a design for the “Ultimate Tennis Centre for Wiltshire.”
Joe met up with Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott along with his parents and his coach Ron Marshall, to talk about tennis facilities in Wiltshire and the idea of a game of tennis in the Atrium was born.
The session involved Ron holding a coaching session with the players from the Westbourne Tennis Club in Trowbridge followed by an exhibition match involving Joe.
Mini Tennis is a fun way for children aged between four and 10 years old to get a feel for the game of tennis. It has been designed to allow young players to develop at their own pace. As players progress, the court and racket size increase.
