Wiltshire’s 12U Boys & Girls Tennis teams play in the National Finals at Bolton

The Wiltshire 12U Girls team produced a stunning performance at the AEGON 12U County Cup National Finals played at Bolton last weekend 10th -12th July and finished second with a Silver Medal.  The boys also qualified for the finals and finished 7th.

The AEGON County Cup Finals consists of 8 Counties from across the UK who all had won their Regional qualifying event 2 weeks earlier. 

Over the weekend, the girls team beat Cambridgeshire 6-2 , Warwickshire 6-2 and Surrey 5-4 on a tiebreak shootout to qualify for the final.  They lost the final against a very strong Lancashire team 6-0.  A tremendous performance from all 4 girls – Amelia Bissett (TeamBath/Devizes), Jessica Doerr (Next Generation Swindon), Ellen Jones (Next Generation Swindon) and Beatrice Watts (Devizes TC) and brilliantly captained by Steve Yeardley, Head Coach at Next Generation Swindon.  Steve Yeardley said “the girls were magnificent all weekend and competed brilliantly.  To finish second was a fantastic achievement”.

The boys team lost to Cheshire 6-2, Middlesex 8-0, West of Scotland 6-2 and beat Shropshire 5-4 after tiebreak shootout to finish 7th.  The boys team, who battled brilliantly all weekend, was Oliver Martin (Team Bath), Edred Opie (Next Generation Swindon/Chippenham TC) and Stanley Brown (Next Generation Swindon).  The Team was captained superbly by Will Baillie, Head Coach at Devizes TC and Will said “the boys showed great character all weekend and showed tremendous effort in every match”.

A fantastic weekend for both Wiltshire teams.
