International tennis returns to Graves Tennis Centre in January, with the Aegon GB Pro-Series

Sheffield Sunday 27 January – Saturday 2 February. This is the first professional event in Sheffield, since the city’s own Jonny Marray became Wimbledon Men’s Doubles champion in 2012, and is free for spectators

The event is a Men’s $10k ITF Pro-Circuit event, the first level of international professional tennis with Djokovic, Federer, Murray, Nadal, and all the world’s top players starting out at this level. Consequently for tennis fans in the area it’s a great opportunity to see some of the game’s rising stars close up and free of charge.

The Pro-Series event is the second of three top level events in the first six weeks of 2013 at Graves Tennis Centre, which is having a major re-furbishment over the next 12 months. The first week of 2013 saw a strong field in the Aegon British Tour event, whilst 8-10 February sees the return of The Tennis Europe Winter Cup (12&U Girls) from 8-10 February.

In January 2012 the top seed was Jerzy Janowicz (Poland), who went on to beat Andy Murray at the Paris Masters in October 2012, is now ranked 26 in the world, and will be seeded at this month’s Australian Open. The 2012 singles title went to British number 4 Dan Evans, who two weeks after his title in Sheffield was the ‘star of the show’ in Britain’ Davis Cups defeat of the Slovak Republic, beating two top 100 players in the process. Its reputation as a breeding ground for future success is further exemplified with 2012 Doubles Champion, Dominic Inglot, now ranked 40 in the world (doubles).

The schedule see’s qualifying on Sunday 27 & Monday 28 January, with main draw Tuesday 29 January – Saturday 2 February. The Men’s Doubles final is scheduled for Friday 1 February, and the Singles final for 11.00am on Saturday 2 February.

Played on the indoor courts at the Graves Tennis Centre, there is FREE entry for spectators.

Player Entry lists will be confirmed 3 days before the event, with draws and match schedule available throughout the tournament week on www.lta.org.uk
