MP CELEBRATES FREE TENNIS SESSIONS

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

MP Greg Mulholland picked up a racket this week to celebrate the start of free tennis coaching taking place at The Hollies in Leeds this summer.

Mulholland joined students from Leeds University and coaches at The Hollies to take part in drills, games and even some LTA Mini Tennis before the 42-year-old was given an individual lesson to take a few tips away.

The free tennis sessions will take place from 2-4pm on the last Sunday of every month this summer and will give locals an excellent opportunity to get involved in tennis.

Mulholland said: “It is very important for people to play the game and it is great that at The Hollies and other park sites across Leeds people can just turn up and play for free.

“I was inspired by the Olympics, including Andy Murray winning gold, and this has made me and I'm sure many others keen to play the game. It is great the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is fully supportive of the Be Inspired, Get involved campaign which is all about getting people active.”

Free coaching sessions will also take place across the city; at Roundhay Park from 2-4pm on the last Saturday of each month, from 2-4pm on the second Sunday at Springhead Park and from 10am-12pm on the second Sunday at Dartmouth Park.

Gavin Sutcliffe, LTA Tennis Development Manager for Yorkshire, added: “I would like to thank Greg and the Leeds University students for coming down to the Hollies to take part. We had a lot of fun.

“I am really keen to spread the word that the tennis facilities at The Hollies and all other park sites across Leeds are free to turn up and play. There is also free coaching at the Hollies on Sunday 28th April 2-4pm and every last Sunday of the month through the summer.”
