A good crowd turned out for tennis at Stocksbridge Tennis Club’s celebration event to mark the completion of floodlighting to all four courts recently. The rain held off for a couple of hours and the warm evening brought plenty of players out for an evening of social tennis and coaching. Brenda Duffield officially turned on the lights for the club and play got under way.
Membership Officer, Anne Postlethwaite says “Brenda was a member of the club for many years and has supported the club with its refurbishments, so was the ideal person to officially turn on the floodlights. Now that the club has lighting tennis can be played all year round, even in the dark winter evenings. The floodlights means that the club can continue with coaching sessions throughout the winter and these are open to non-members as well as members”.
The club secured a grant from the LTA to have the floodlights installed, along with money raised by members and added to by the generosity of local businesses and community organisations.
The club website has a full list of sessions running throughout the winter programme of www.stocksbridgetennisclub.org.uk.
Anyone interested in coming along to the club and trying out the courts can find out more at the club’s website or email tennis@stocksbridgetennisclub.org.uk .
