Yorkshire Tennis is delighted to announce that Sheffield’s Fulwood Tennis Club has been named the North Region’s Club of the Year at the recent Aegon British Tennis Awards.
Having previously been named Yorkshire Tennis’ Club of the Year the club progressed to a regional judging panel, who decided to recognise their efforts by awarding them this further regional award.
Sheffield’s Fulwood Tennis Club was established in 1910 with 3 grass tennis courts – all of which still exist to this day. The club regularly organises tennis events for the community to attend, such as their popular Great British Tennis Weekend Open Days which saw over 150 attendees come through the club gates. Testament to the friendly atmosphere, the quality of tennis provision at the club and Fulwood’s forward looking approach to booking technology, the club welcomed 65 plus new members since May.
The Award also recognised Fulwood Tennis Club’s commitment to developing its workforce, with coaches Conor Tordoff and Katy Hudson recently completing their Level 2 and 3 qualifications respectively. The panel noted Head Coach Jonathon’s consistent efforts to increase junior membership at the venue; his efforts being rewarded with attendance figures for squad groups reaching over 80 juniors each week.
