Craven Lawn Tennis Club in Gargrave held their Annual Presentation Evening on Friday 23rd November at Herriots Hotel in Skipton, which was very well attended as ever by both members and their guests. The presentations and awards handed out on the night were as follows:
John Hill Cup Winner - Hugh Sissling
Vera Fell Cup Winners - Sally Clarke and Philippa Murgatroyd
President's Day Winners - Sally Clarke and Ron Bell
Joan Wilson Cup Award - Graeme Southam (for Outstanding Contribution To Club Life in 2018)
The Club, one of the oldest in Yorkshire, will be celebrating it's 140th anniversary in 2019 and a whole range of both tennis and social events are planned in recognition of this throughout the coming year.
On 22nd & 23rd of February 2019, a group of players from the Club will be travelling to Roehampton to participate in the LTA/Bright Ideas for Tennis 24 Hour Tennis Marathon alongside both Davis Cup and Federation Cup players to raise funds equally for both their own club but also for Manorlands Hospice. Then, on Saturday 15th June, Danny Sapsford (a former Davis Cup player and leading light behind the Bright Ideas for Tennis Charity) and Robyn Moore will be visiting the club as part of the "Breakpoint 2019" event raising money to help those suffering with mental health issues. Danny & Robyn will be playing 12 hours of tennis on each of the 30 days during June 2019 and aiming to hit a ball for everyone person in the UK affected in this way. Craven Lawn Tennis Club are honoured to have been chosen by them to act as one of the venues for this event as they tour the country. The Club hope to have a whole range of different tennis related activities taking place that day.
If you would like to know any more about the Club, and it's history, to feature in your publications during 2019 please do get in touch with Beth Whitley (Hon. Secretary) - it's quite a milestone for a small village club to reach and they have much to offer both players and the local community.
