Dorset Trio Reach Last Four at Dorchester Junior Open

Monday, April 22, 2013

George Morrissey and Oliver Boulton both made the semi-finals of the Boys Under 16s draw at the Dorchester Junior Open, whilst Connor Townsend progressed to the final.

Townsend and Morrissey  experienced straight forward routes to the last four as Boulton was forced to come through his quarter final match against Bradley Webb, also of Dorset, in three sets, eventually winning 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(7).

Boulton and Townsend then went head-to-head in the semi-finals, both vying for a chance to play for the tournament crown. The seedings were somewhat upset in the match as Townsend, the third seed, took advantage of early breaks in both sets to dominant the encounter. He beat Boulton, the second seed, 6-1, 6-2 to earn a spot in the final.

The other semi-final saw Morrissey, the fourth seed, take on the top seed Henry Field from Somerset. Unfortunately for the Dorset player he would not progress to the final. Field was on top form and cruised through the match, winning 6-3, 6-0.

The final was a similar affair with Townsend playing some good tennis, but his opponent, Field, playing just that bit better. A close first set went against the Dorset player and his opponent then took control in the second set before completing an impressive victory, 6-4, 6-1.

The tournament was the 9th Annual Dorchester Open and organisers will no doubt already be planning next year’s competition, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the event.
