Dominic Evan-Hart is appointed Head Coach at Crowthorne Tennis Club from 17th January 2014

It was announced today, 17th December 2013, that Dominic Evan-Hart has been appointed Head Coach of Crowthorne Tennis Club. He replaces Gazanfar (Simon) Syed who has held the post since 2008. On behalf of the Club, the committee wishes to thank Simon for his efforts over the past 5 years.

Dominic will be focusing on increasing membership and participation at the Club, especially at the beginner, improver, junior and mini levels. He, along with the committee, believes the Club needs to forge a stronger and more active relationship with local schools and the community. He also plans to broaden the coaching and tennis related activities in order to secure new membership to the Club, both at the junior/mini and adult levels. He plans to bring a collaborative and democratic approach, working closely with the adult members and committee to help them achieve their individual goals and those of the Club as a whole.

Having played tennis for nearly 30 years from the age of 8, coached as a junior by the Australian, Ken Fletcher, who helped him reach a junior ranking within the top 20 in Great Britain, he represented the Southern Region of England and won the Berkshire open and closed tournaments in singles and doubles.

More recently Dominic has represented Crowthorne Tennis Club in their 1st Men’s Team and their Mixed Teams, which he also captained, and he has been a member of the Club’s committee since 2009.

After so much competitive tennis, Dominic was determined to become a coach, taking the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications in 2012 and Level 3 in 2013. He also qualified to teach cardio tennis in 2013 and classes started in August 2013. His recent training has given Dominic the advantage of being totally up to date in the latest techniques and methods in both coaching and playing the game. Should he ever require any advice as he sets out on his new career, the Club is fortunate enough to have an experienced coach amongst its members; Ash Smith is a Level 5 qualified coach, busy working with our national wheelchair squad, and has recently been mentoring Dominic during his training.

Outside tennis, Dominic runs a hotel executive search company and his wife, Natasha, is a hotelier. Living in the middle of Crowthorne Village they are at the heart of the community where their two sons attend a local school and, with time to spare from his company, Dominic is ideally placed to embark on this new phase of his working life, and achieve both his ambitions and those of the Club and its committee. The decision to appoint Dominic was a unanimous decision by the committee and we would urge all Club Members to welcome him into his new post.
