JOB PURPOSE:
To act as the Tennis Development Officer for Bradfield College Tennis Centre and to provide tennis coaching to pupils of the College and customers of BCEL to a high standard.
TDO Role:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide basic administration support to the Director of Tennis and Coaching Team
· Database management
· Assist with LTA and College fixtures
· Retail and court bookings
· Provide schools outreach support to 14 & Under Performance coordinator
· Promote and assist with the running of internal competitions
· Assist with Wimbledon Ballot administration
· Work closely with the Director of Tennis and the Berkshire LTA TDM and TSA
· Provide 1:1 coaching to Commercial and College pupils
· Assist with the delivery of the Junior Development programme
Requirements:
· Good IT knowledge, Microsoft Word, Excel
· Own Transport, clean driving license
· Good playing level (minimum 7.1)
· Previous experience working with schools or in a schools environment an advantage
· Must hold a LTA license or up to date registration
· ABTO Part 1 Referee qualification with the aim towards upgrading to Part 2
· A love of tennis, a FAN
· Good telephone and communication skills
Coaching Role:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Providing high quality coaching at Bradfield and other locations.
· Providing guidance to individual children (and their parents) to assist their development as players and their enjoyment of tennis.
· Encouraging all players to become more independent and make greater use of the range of tennis opportunities at Bradfield e.g. joining the club and participating in tournaments or teams.
· Contributing to the development of the tennis programme at Bradfield, for instance by suggesting new ideas and helping to implement new activities.
· Contributing to the development of general coaching plans for each term and specific lesson plans for each session within the junior coaching programme.
· Supporting the maintenance of Clubmark and Quest status.
When providing coaching the coach is expected to:
· Plan the activity in advance, particularly by reference to guidance from the Director of Tennis.
· Ensure that all necessary equipment is available before the start of the session and that it is stored correctly at the end of session.
· Ensure that the coaching area has been correctly set up and that it is safe for the delivery of the activity.
· Comply with all relevant Operating Procedures, particularly in respect of Health and Safety and Quality Management.
· Behave in accordance with the LTA ‘Code of Conduct for People Working with Children in Tennis’.
· Take responsibility for the welfare of children in his/her care. This would include: completing attendance registers, managing correct handovers to/from parents or other members of staff and maintaining appropriate standards of behaviour and discipline in the group.
· In the event of an incident or alarm, lead the evacuation in accordance with the Emergency Action Plan and liaise with the Sports Complex Duty Manager.
· Respond appropriately to any accident, liaising with the Sports Complex Duty Manager as necessary.
The coach is also expected to:
· Be a role model for other members of the coaching team and an ambassador for the Bradfield College tennis programme.
· Participate in regular team meetings to share ideas/best practice and discuss various aspects of the tennis operation.
· Attend internal training sessions.
The coach may undertake private coaching at Bradfield at times when he/she is not coaching as part of the BCEL or College programmes. When organising and delivering private coaching sessions at Bradfield the coach should:
· Consult the Director of Tennis to ensure that the intended private session does not conflict with other company tennis activities and is approved as an ‘extraneous activity’.
· Book the session at the Sports Complex Reception up to a week in advance in the name of the private individual and not just the coach.
· Inform the Sports Complex Reception as soon as possible if the session is cancelled.
· Ensure that the appropriate court fee is paid to the Sports Complex Reception on the same day as the session.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience/Attributes:
Essential:
· Minimum Level 3 LTA licensed coach and qualified as ‘LTA Coach’, or equivalent.
· Extensive coaching experience of all ages and different standards
· Passionate about encouraging participation in tennis
· Highly motivated, positive and able to work independently
· Interpersonal and communication skills
· Able to demonstrate empathy and understanding with players and parents
· Able to work effectively as part of a team
· Completion of LTA Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course
· Completion of appropriate First Aid course
· Recently attended or booked on to a LTA Equality and Diversity course
· Recently attended or booked on to a LTA Safety and Wellbeing course (compulsory LTA license requirement)
· Committed to the development of a working culture which values and celebrates the contributions and achievements of colleagues.

· £18k per annum
