MP gets down to the grassroots of tennis in Berkshire

Thursday, February 09, 2012

Reading East MP Rob Wilson showed off his skills on the court during a visit to Caversham Park Tennis Club recently.

Mr Wilson met director of coaching and Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) development manager Jo-Anne Downing and took a tour of the club as well as discussing the future of grassroots tennis.

Mr Wilson said: “It is great to see that there are such fantastic facilities and coaching available in Reading East to help in the search for Britain’s next Andy Murray or Virginia Wade.

“Without the appropriate focus on the grass-roots level, it is easy for certain sports to become an elitist hobby.

“In such an important year for British sport, it is exciting to see Caversham Park Tennis Club promoting accessible sport in our local community.”

Caversham Park Tennis Club is one of Berkshire's Beacon sites and provides a quality programme which is affordable and offers some free tennis opportunities for the local community.
