After 5 typical hard fought days in the LTA’s County Week at Felixstowe Berkshire Men’s much changed team claimed promotion with a 5-4 win over Nottinghamshire on Friday last.
Amongst the youngsters coming into the team this summer was Maidenhead’s George Headley who partnered Windsor’s Andrew Hamer on the last day to a key victory. Whilst the vital 5th win came from the local Maidenhead pair of Rob Flynn & James Weeks. Berkshire now moves up to Group 3.
Meanwhile the Ladies held on to their Group 3 status-just. Needing a win over fellow relegation candidates South Wales on Thursday they survived by a narrow 5-4 win.
Both captain Heather Bates and regular No.1 Lindsey Cox (both from The Royal County of Berkshire Health & Racquets Club by Virgin Active Classic) survived long standing injuries to hang on. Bates partnering Selena Coburn to 2 wins and Cox with Clare Powell winning all 3 rubbers to clinch victory
