Monday, September 16, 2013

Berkshire's Marcus Willis won the Doubles futures at Wrexham with stand in partner George coupland. And won back to back doubles titles with new and regular partner Kent No1 Lewis Burton at Sheffield and Roehampton.

Back to back doubles titles at futures in Sheffield & Roehampton means the exciting new all GB doubles partnership of Marcus Willis & Lewis Burton is emerging and bearing fruit .

The  Doubles Duo arrive for the Series in Kuwait in good form and high morale Manager Gary lewis is quoted as saying "this is a great result for the fledgling Doubles partnership which as well as having early success with back to back futures doubles titles have agreed an extension to Marcus Willis's successful sponsorship with A1 Pharmaceuticals plc to include the Kent no1 Lewis Burton as a regular doubles partner"

Gary lewis went on to quote "Kent performance coach Craig Allen has done a great job with Lewis to get him to this stage of his Pro tennis career and with the introduction of right specialist doubles program that I am currently planning  this pair are with out doubt in my opinion a future Davies Cup pair and Grand slam title contenders . The pair are already  arguably GB best doubles pair at 23 years & under . Doubles players with modern health & fitness program's can peak at 35-36 years so they have plenty of time to fulfil their not inconsiderable potential."

Gary is planning a extensive training program with several talented coaches and fitness specialists which will include regular sparing with regular They will be first choice doubles pair in both the National indoors and Aegon team finals where this will give them extra experience to develop the partnership .

Both players will still also focus on improving their ATP singles rankings & Marcus willis is the biggest climber in GB this climbing an incredible 609 places in only 9 months.

An interesting Doubles comparison can be made  with the current first choice Davies cup doubles player  Colin Fleming who at 22 years had only 4 futures doubles titles and no singles titles compared with Marcus Willis who at the same age who has 10 doubles titles and 2 singles titles, Lewis at only 21 has a huge tally of 14 Doubles titles which is likely to reach 20+ prior to the end of his 22nd year and he also has the Doubles pedigree of being a former junior wimbledon finalist .

These impressive results and statistics mean that well in advance of their peak these  talented young doubles pros already have considerable success and invaluable experience prior to stepping up to the next level at challenger events .

We will be looking to Dominate the doubles at GB futures events throughout 2014 as well as progressing in challenger competitions and Qualifying for Grand slams .

Ultimate 2014 goals for the doubles partnership are qualification for Wimbledon and 360 points as a pair by the end of next year which currently would rank them in the top 100 doubles pairs in the world & GB no2 as an all British pair.
