The Cornish girls 10 and under team travelled to Taunton to compete in the girls 10 & under County Cup.
The team, Ellie White, Florence Cameron-Webb and Bethany Cole represented Cornwall, playing against teams from Devon, Avon, Somerset, Dorset and the Channel Islands.
The opening group was made up of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Our Girls were the first of the counties on court and showed great determination and composure when playing in front of the large court side crowd. Despite coming close in the 3 singles games and the doubles, Cornwall lost to Devon. Moving onto the next match the Cornish girls came out victorious against Somerset which meant they progressed through their group as runners up.
The next round of matches saw Cornwall come up against Avon the favourites for the competition. The girls showed great enthusiasm during the matches but just found the power and experience of the Avon team too much to handle.
The final game for Cornwall was playing the Dorset team for the 3rd place. The match was very close with both teams still able to take third place going into the final doubles game. In the crucial match Dorset managed to show their experience and edge the encounter taking 3rd place.
The weekend of tennis gave the girls their first taste of team competition at this level. They achieved a great result, finishing 4th against some very tough competition. Well done girls.
