Captain Neil Dennis with David Blackburn, Dennis Nicholls and Peter Hudson set off at 0600hrs to take on the cream of Northampton and Derby veteran men’s tennis.
Neil had organised everything with characteristic precision, and the team arrived with two hours to spare in time for a light lunch and a warm up. Ideal.
David proceeded to float to an efficient first singles victory, while Neil gave a creditable performance against strong opposition. Meanwhile, Peter and Dennis lost a close encounter, knowing they could have won . The reverse doubles resulted in predictable wins for the singles pairing leaving Cornwall narrow losers by 2 rubbers to three.
The excellence of the post match meal was epitomised by the quality of wine, garnered and fermented in Mike Dean’s own vineyard.
A pleasant evening was followed by another close encounter at Derby. Results were identical with David winning both his matches and Peter and Dennis loosing a second close match by the identical 7-5 6-4 score.
In summary, an excellent and most enjoyable weekend.
