Devon and Cornwalls aim is to increase the number of girls playing at grass roots, to encourage players of all ages and abilities, and to support and build the profile of girl’s tennis to those already training and competing.
Flybe have been a key sponsor for Devon and Cornwall LTA over the last 3yrs, where we have successfully developed and seen a growth in U10 tennis. Together we plan to offer many opportunities to girls of all ages within tennis, starting with the launch last Tuesday at Tarka Tennis Centre, Barnstaple.
We offered all girls complimentary tickets to watch the Aegon Pro Series Ladies event at Tarka Tennis Centre. Where they had a great opportunity to watch live tennis from Great Britains best such as Heather Watson, Anne Keothavong & Laura Robson. Plus 2 hrs free coaching with Lucie Ahl (former GB no1. player at Wimbledon and coach to GB’s best players)
We were supported by 12 girls of all ages from North Devon, the pouring rain did not deter the Devon girls, as they were still keen to hit a few balls in the on-court warm-up session. They then tested their physical ability by carrying out the Talent Identification physical tests. Finishing with Lucie Ahl putting them through their paces with some ‘on-court skills’ winning tips.
For the future our intention is to incorporate girls only competition at 10U, girls only training sessions and fun mother and daughter doubles competition.
