This year the Vernon Weaver Tournament was held at Tarka Tennis Centre in April.
There were only 3 teams in each event so it was played as a round robin. In the ladies event, Torquay defeated Victoria Park 4-0 and Tarka produced the same result. The match between Tarka and Torquay was closely fought with Torquay winning by 8 games after an overall draw on sets. The trophy thus returns to the Exeter & District League. The Tarka pairing of Lucy Gill and Jemma Sloman were unbeaten on the day however.
In the Men’s event the tennis was of a superb standard, even after 9 hours! North Devon League representative, Atlantic Racquet Centre, retained their title without losing a rubber. This is the fourth time they have won the title in the last 7 years. The fight for second place was won by Victoria Park who defeated Mannamead from Plymouth & District League 6-5 on sets.
