Tennis really is 'a game for life'

Friday, August 07, 2015

You are never too old to enjoy a good game of tennis they said and so a new series of inter county matches has been set up to prove the point.

Two groups of 4 counties have been organised; North & Midlands and South & South West. The very first match in the series took place at the Exmouth Tennis & Fitness Centre between Devon and Middlesex.

Devon's first pair, Colin Holman and Tom Eastop, who had played regularly together in the Over 75s started the inaugural match with a hard-fought win 7-5, 7-5.  Such effort though had somewhat drained the batteries and they went down 6-4, 6-4 in their second match.

Devon second pair, Mick Paddock and Patrick Hamilton found themselves outgunned by the Middlesex pairings. Mick had been a regular Devon veteran player whilst Patrick was making his debut at this level.

Despite the loss everyone throughly enjoyed the match and the opportunity to represent their County and it is hoped that this age group may become an official part of the Veteran Inter County Leagues next year.
