Devon Over 60’s Ladies played Gloucestershire at the East Gloucester Club in Cheltenham on Tuesday 7th May 2013. Devon were represented by Anne Tait, Linda Knight, Sally Bassinder and Nickie Keele. On this occasion Barbara Robillard and Rosemary Browne also travelled and played a friendly match against the Gloucestershire reserves.
This was an extremely hard fought and enjoyable fixture played on astro turf in glorious sunshine. When play finished after four hours the rubbers, sets and games were all equal but as Devon were leading 3-2 in sets after the first round the Devon ladies were awarded the match.
This was followed by a match against Berkshire where the ladies played extremely well to win 4.0 without the loss of a set. The team were represented by Anne Tait and Linda Knight, playing at number one and Sally Bassender and Nicki Keele playing at number two. Captain Ann Louis said, “I think much of the success of the team is due to the ladies’ overall commitment and team spirit.”
The next two matches are away against Suffolk and Sussex.
