Esperanza & Lucy

Talented player Esperanza Merry for whom serious illness left her unfortunately reliant on crutches or wheelchair to get around has at last been able to return to her beloved tennis.

With Lucy Shuker, GB no. 1 and Paralympic bronze medallist as her inspiration and a win in one of her first wheelchair tournaments under her belt, Esperanza has set herself the goal of possibly competing in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio when she will be 15 & the 2020 Paralympics when she will be 19.

Her ability has been recognised by an invitation to join the Tennis Foundation National Talent ID Development Program for wheelchair tennis and she will attend monthly camps at the National Tennis Centre. On Wednesday Esperanza was fitted for a bespoke customised tennis wheelchair, the funding of which is being considered by various charities.

So Esperanza will receive the best support possible to reach her potential and as you can imagine Esperanza is a very, very happy girl!
