Southbourne Tennis Club has smashed its own UK record for the number of people taking part in cardio tennis at the same time. Cardio Tennis is a fun group fitness class for players of all ages and abilities.
Last year’s record of 75 was easily broken this year with 135 people taking part on all six of the clubs courts. The morning was a great success with children, adults, disability groups and the children from Chernobyl taking part and having a really enjoyable time and also keeping fit.
The event raised over £1,000 and Barclays Bank kindly matched the first £750 making a total of nearly £1,800. Donations can still be made via: https://localgiving.com/charity/southbournetennisclub
The event was held to raise money for Chernobyl Children Life Line and the clubs disability programme.
The Chernobyl Children Life Line helps children suffering from the after-effects of the Chernobyl disaster and brings groups of children to England for a month each year for some rest bite from the effects of radiation. This gives the children up to two years added life expectancy. Further details from: http://www.ccll.org.uk.
The tennis club runs several disability groups for people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, wheelchair users and hard of hearing groups.
Keith Mitchell, chairman of the club said ‘This was a fantastic event with great support from members, friends, disability groups and the children from Chernobyl. It was amazing to beat our own record but this event was really about our two good causes. Having the children from Chernobyl at the event really made it and their ‘thank you’ song to everyone at the end was very moving. A big thank you to everyone for their support.’
