Southbourne Tennis Club runs Dorset’s 1st Learning Disability Tennis Tournament

Thursday, June 20, 2013

The tennis tournament which is named after its main sponsor, The Captains Club Hotel, was a great success and attracted players from all over East Dorset.

Keith Mitchell, club chairman, said ‘this tournament was the culmination of our first year of disability tennis at the club and it was great to see so many of our learning disability players enjoying an afternoon of fun, games and competition. The club is now planning to increase its disability work to include players with hearing and visual impairments’.

The Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bournemouth presented the medals and trophies at the event. The winner of the event was Humphrey Webster and the runner up was James Coe. The winner of the most improved player was the very popular choice of Jessica Menton for the huge progress she has made over the past year. This trophy was presented by Bill Jones from Bournemouth and Southbourne Rotary who had provided the medals and trophies.

Southbourne Tennis Club is keen to expand its disability participants and further information can be found on the club’s web site www.southbournetennisclub.co.uk or by contacting Keith Mitchell on 07966246062.
