A fabulous setting at Devonshire Park Eastbourne, with fantastic weather was all the ladies 35 team could wish for. It inspired us to play our best, despite a few injuries and that was the younger end of the team, we fought and battled to gain promotion.
Friday against Warwickshire a team we hadn’t come across before. Libby started us off with no2 singles, unfortunately losing her match, Lydia No1 singles went onto win hers which meant we needed to win 2 out of the next 3 doubles. Janice and Anne played 1st doubles this proved to be an important match and they came out winners in the 3rd set tiebreak, Libby and Lydia went onto beat the same pair comfortably and we lost the 3rd doubles. Result though a 3 -2 win.
Saturday against Avon, a win for Libby and Lydia and they won their doubles, and saved the day for us as the other 2 doubles closely fought but lost, one of them being in a 3rd set tiebreak,. Result 3-2 win.
Sunday against Derbyshire = All to play for both teams having won both previous days. Libby’s 1st match proved to be a long mental battle and after 2 hours she came out winning in 3rd set tiebreak 10-8, this was the match we needed to win. Lydia’s opponent was injured and conceded after 2pts, so we were 2-0 up. 1st doubles on was Janice and Anne, another long match for the 2 seniors, they cruised the 1st 3 games but then nerves kicked in and they went onto lose the set 6-4, 2nd set won 6-0 and so down to 3rd set tiebreak again, Janice and Anne pulled through and won 10-4. This put us 3-0 and so the other 2 matches weren’t played as didn’t affect any positions in the group.
A very successful and enjoyable weekend, and we await Division 3 in 2016.
