U9 County Cup
Saturday 15th August 2015
Division B
Sunderland Tennis Centre
Durham and Cleveland were hosts of one of the under 9 county cup events which took place at 10 different venues across the country on Saturday 15th August. The event was split into 10 divisions which consisted of 44 counties. Division B was played at the Sunderland Tennis Centre and consisted of 4 counties from the north of England, Durham and Cleveland, Northumberland, Cumbria and Yorkshire. Each county played each other in a round robin format with each match the best of 9 rubbers, 3 boys singles and a doubles, 3 girls singles and a doubles and a mixed doubles. Representing D&C were Ankith Rangan, James Paluzzi, Adam Armitage, Ben Wrann, Grace Hildreth, Francesca Simpson and Alexia Reynolds. Libby Darley and Vineetha Kandikonda were also included in the squad but were unable to attend the event.
Durham and Cleveland’s captain Anthony Reynolds commented:
“Our players were brilliant throughout the day giving 100% effort in every match. They all really enjoyed themselves and were very supportive towards each other as a team. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the parents for creating a great atmosphere throughout the day, consistantly supporting and encouraging the players whilst in action. We showed great character and determination in our first match against Yorkshire but lost each rubber. We showed some great fighting spirit in our second match losing 14-4 against Cumbria which resulted in us playing a 3rd/4th place playoff against Northumberland. The match could of gone either way with 8 of the 9 rubbers going to 3 sets but unfortunately we lost 12-6 , finishing 4th overall with Yorkshire taking top spot, Cumbria second and Northumberland 3rd.
All the players were a pleasure to work with and did themselves proud representing Durham and Cleveland, keep up the great work.”
