The U10 Girls County Cup took place at Sunderland Tennis Centre on the 30th and 31st May 2015. The team of Isabella Paluzzi, Libby Darley, Grace Hildreth and Erin Forster performed well throughout the weekend.
In the first match against the West of Scotland, the girls coped with difficult, blustery conditions, but were beaten 8-0 by the strong Scottish team. Isabella and Libby played well in their doubles match and were just beaten 10-8 in a third set tiebreak. In the second match on the Saturday, all the girls had settled into their games and won all their matches to beat Northumberland 8-0.
On Sunday morning the matches were moved indoors due to poor weather conditions outdoors. All of the team played extremely well, appearing more relaxed and hitting with more pace and consistency. Durham and Cleveland beat the South of Scotland 8-0 and the North of Scotland 6-2. All of the team competed well, with Grace and Erin fighting back from 3-0 down in the second set of doubles against the South of Scotland, to win 5-3, 5-3.
The Durham and Cleveland Girls team finished runner up overall in the group of 5 teams which was an excellent result. All of the team competed strongly with positive attitudes, excellent behaviour and good sportsmanship on and off the court. Well done – an excellent weekend.
