Wimbledon success for North East youngster

Cheri Darley from Durham and Cleveland took the Road to Wimbledon Girls Doubles Title with partner Leah Gonzales-Edwards.

The Tennis World youngster, won 3 out of 3 of her games in the County U14 group and then went on to reach the Quarter Finals of the main draw.

However, it was in the doubles competition where she achieved most.

Along side doubles partner Leah Gonzales-Edward, the 2nd seeds won the Girls Doubles with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 win over eight seeds Catrin Hughes and Varada Kamate.

 As well as taking home a winner’s trophy she received a Babolat racquet contract and got a tour for her and her family around the iconic Wimbledon grounds.

 The HSBC Road to Wimbledon National 14 & Under Challenge is the UK’s largest national junior grass tournament and forms part of HSBC’s investment in the starts of the future.
