The summer holidays are upon us and hundreds of local children in North Baddesley have time on their hands so with support from the Village Council, Richard Libby from Romsey & Abbey Tennis Club, Martin Terrill from Absolute Tennis and Hampshire & IOW LTA a FREE junior taster session was created to make the most of the two village courts and get the kids outside and on court!
The 2 hour taster session was attended by more than 20 local children who enjoyed some coaching, fun drills, games and lots of fun and left with information about upcoming sessions that will be running throughout the summer holidays to get them playing more regularly on the doorstep.
Andy Trott, LTA Tennis Development Officer “To arrive in glorious sunshine and see more than 20 children on court and parents sat around the side with picnics is great, this kind of intervention to support local activity and generate new activity for people on their doorstep is great and I hope that the sessions continue to thrive and that the upcoming junior sessions and new adult coaching / Cardio Tennis can be successfully introduced and become part of the Village.”
The coaches will be compiling a database of interested villagers and running sessions accordingly throughout the summer and beyond. The Village Council are working closely with private consultants to develop the sports facilities in the Village and tennis will make up part of this new landscape so this activity goes to demonstrate just how much interest there is.”
“My son watched every minute of the Murray match and wanted to get out on court and start his journey so with this session starting on the doorstep it was perfect and he has really enjoyed it” – mum of one of the juniors.
Trott continued “It has never been easier to play tennis and these coaches are demonstrating how easy, accessible and affordable it is to get involved with a sport for life.”
