Men's Over 70s Report

Monday, December 01, 2014

After almost 3 years undefeated, we finally lost to our main adversaries Surrey, in the National final at Dudley, by a close 3 rubbers to 2.

We were against a side very keen to avenge last years defeat by us, they were undoubtedly stronger than last year, whilst we perhaps were not quite at our best, with injuries and some illness amongst the team.

But it was a close run thing, victory coming to Surrey in the last rubber of the match, when a few points here and there, could have swung it the other way. David Brazier had an excellent win over their new 70 yo Tom Petersen in the singles, patience winning over power this time, and we won one of the doubles matches.

All the team has been terrifically supportive, and I would like to thank them all for their commitment and endeavour, a pleasure and a privilege to be part of it.

Since this is my 4th year in this age group, I will take a step back now as Captain, and ask one of the team to take things forward into 2015.

Our results for 2014 were as follows:

Division 1b

We beat West of Scotland 5 – 0 at home

We beat Lancashire 5 – 0 away

We beat Sussex 4 – 1 away

We beat Hertfordshire 4 – 1 at home
