Winchester’s Osman Tennis delivers fantastic Lakesmere Cup tennis tournament for youth

Local Tennis tournament proves to be an ace with the kids.

A glorious September day attracted over 50 children from the Osman tennis community programme to compete in the annual Lakesmere Cup tennis tournament, sponsored by local company Lakesmere for a 14th year.

Juniors from the age of 5 – 13 played their hearts out for the many various and spectacular cups and trophies on offer. Throughout the day there were tears of disappointment, smiles of success and looks of gritty determination as matches were played to an extremely high standard and with fantastic sportsmanship for players so young.

The main boys event was a tightly fought contest between two of the clubs finest young players and was  won by Thomas Moore finally overcoming a spirited Xavier Keay in a match that went to a deciding tie break with Thomas winning 7-4.

The Main girls event was played in the 9 – 11 years category with Zahra Web winning in style 11 – 3 against the younger and talented Jasmine Jones.

Nick Sellick, who was representing Lakesmere (a keen tennis player himself) was on hand to present the cups and trophies. In his summary of the day, Mr Sellick said “Lakesmere are proud to be the flagship sponsor of such a successful community tennis programme and I am amazed by the fantastic quality of tennis on show today“.
