Tennis Winter National Tour Victory for Oliver Tarvet

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

In a challenging top half of the 12U boys main draw at Bolton Arena Winter National Tour Oliver made a solid start in his first match to secure victory against Lancashire boy Billy Blades 6-2 6-2.

Day two started brightly with an early win over eighth seed Will Nolan to set up a nicely balanced quarter final tie against fourth seed Louis Davey from Cornwall. In what proved to be a magnificent match both boys showed great technical ability in a hard hitting affair. Oliver was dominant in the first set taking it 6-0 but the second set went to a tie break at six games all. In the later stages Louis appeared to be gaining the upper hand but Oliver managed to summon up one last effort to take the tie break 7-2 and the match 6-0 7-6.

Day three threw up a challenging semi-final against top seed Will Gray. With his first serve percentage lower than usual Will was finding cheap points hard to come by and was made to pay for a number of unforced errors with Oliver taking the match in three gruelling set 6-2 3-6 10-3. With brimming confidence Oliver played a faultless final taking it 6-0 6-1 against number three seed Roan Jones for his first National Tour win of the season

Head Coach Jon Meredith commented, “Oliver is working very hard with great intensity on court of late which is paying dividends. Beating 4 pf the top 10 players in Great Britain in a row is a great achievement and with continued hard work we are hopeful that Oliver can look forward to a bright future.
