Hertfordshire set to go tennis crazy during Wimbledon Championships

  • The third of four Great British Tennis Weekends takes place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June.
  •  Great British Tennis Weekend will see courts across Hertfordshire serve up free tennis for families during the biggest tennis event of the year

In the middle of Wimbledon, as the world’s greatest tennis players compete in the capital, families across Hertfordshire will be given the ultimate chance to get involved in the excitement of The Championships when the third in a series of four free ‘Great British Tennis Weekends’ smashes into town on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June.  The first of the weekends on the 17th and 18th May saw hundreds of families across Hertfordshire grabbing the opportunity for free tennis events as tennis fever truly began to grip the nation with the second weekend building on this momentum.

People right across Hertfordshire will take part in Cardio Tennis, Mini Tennis, coaching and family tennis activities – all completely free as part of the LTA and Tennis Foundation’s drive to get more people playing more often. Venues will provide rackets and balls, enabling those that attend and have never tried playing tennis before to get involved straight away and not be limited by their ability, age or experience.

The third of the ‘Great British Tennis Weekends’ continues to ramp up a summer of tennis fever with one more Great British Tennis Weekends taking place in July as follows:

  • Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th July

Leo Tutt (Regional Tennis Participation Manager) said: “The first two Great British Tennis Weekends demonstrated the huge demand for community tennis within Hertfordshire. It’s been great to see so many local people of all ages and abilities picking up a racket and getting involved.  This weekend is planned to be the biggest ever community tennis event held within the county, with more venues participating and a wider range of activities on offer. With the excitement of Wimbledon upon us, there has never been a better time to get down to your local club, park or Leisure Centre and to get involved in these fantastic tennis activities”.

Participating venues offering free tennis this weekend include:

  • Harpenden Sports Centre
  • Batchwood Golf & Sports Centre
  • Westminster Lodge, St. Albans
  • David Lloyd Bushey & Hatfield
  • Cassiobury LTC
  • Berkhamsted LT&SRC

Families can book in advance online and find out more information about local venues at www.greatbritishtennisweekend.com.
