On Friday 16th March the Hertfordshire LTA held a dinner at Moor Park Golf Club, to thank its various sponsors and volunteers and also to celebrate the tremendous success our county teams and individuals have had over the past couple of years, at both adult and junior levels.
Amongst the 92 guests were past and present team captains, as well as a number of long servicing volunteers, including our President Gavin Masterton with his wife Sue, Sybil Howgego, Sue Wolstenholme, Martin and Janet Corrie, Trevor Adamson, John and Doreen Banham, Jennifer and Andrew Keates and John and Kathy Tillin to mention just a few, as well as the Herts Executive committee and current County LTA team, Leo Tutt, John Bruley and Carole Draper. Each of the county’s 79 registered places to play were offered a pair of tickets for the event and many turned up to enjoy the evening, which included a superb meal in the magnificent surroundings of the Moor Park Mansion, with table entertainment courtesy of a local magician!
Before the meal Gavin Masterton spoke about John Harris, who sadly passed away a few days before the event. A minutes silence was held in respect to John, who had served our county for many years in various roles.
At the end of the meal Trevor Adamson introduced our special guest, Roger Draper; CEO for The Lawn Tennis Association who spoke, congratulating Hertfordshire on their success, both on and off of the tennis court over the past 2-3 years. Hertfordshire currently hold 3 out of the 4 senior AEGON summer and winter County Cups, the Girls 14&U AEGON County Cup, along with the Lionel Cox Trophy and the recently won LTA East Region Mini Tennis Red trophy, showing that our talent covers all ages. He also mentioned individual successes for Herts players including David Rice, Neil Bamford, Katy Dunne, Jennifer Brown, Ed Corrie and Nick Lester.
This was a fantastic evening, enjoyed by all present and our thanks to Roger Draper for attending and to the staff of Moor Park Golf Club for making the evening a very special one for all.
