Winning Hertfordshire tennis players, Arabella Moen and Joel Pierleoni, got off to a good start for the Summer 2015 season, taking both the winners places in the Boys and Girls Nottingham Junior Open U12 Grade 2 Tournament, held at Nottingham University Tennis Centre over the Easter weekend.
Arabella Moen who trains at Gosling Tennis Academy and Joel Pierleoni who trains at Berkhamsted Elite Tennis Academy both fought their way through the large draw to claim the winner’s trophies.
The weather was sunny and warm for most of the week, with the wind and rain only making an appearance on finals day, which delayed play for a short while and made conditions for the finals far trickier than they had been, with sudden gusts of wind meaning the two competitors had to quickly adapt their games to play through the difficult conditions.
Both finals were tough, Arabella defeated Amelia Bissett from Wiltshire in a close fought Girl’s final, winning in two straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, whilst Joel narrowly beat Luka Petrovic from Middlesex, in the Boys final with a nail-biting tiebreak for the second set, winning 6-3, 7-6(3).
Both players attend schools in Hertfordshire and manage to fit their tennis training in around their full-time education, Bella at Queenswood School and Joel at Berkhamsted.
