ALBANY TENNIS NEWS by Pat Sharp

All club Junior coaching will take a break during the school Easter holiday and will restart from Monday 22nd April. The first Mini Red tennis will be on Saturday 27th April, with beginners at 12noon. There is room for three or four beginners aged 4 or older, as some from that group have been promoted to the 1pm session. More details from the Secretary (tel. 861497/498597) albanytennispr@manx.net or Club Coach ianwatsonpts@manx.net (tel.496293).

League matches have started so please be aware of the dates for home matches in the Isle of Man LTA Men’s and Women’s leagues. Monday’s match was postponed due to rain.

Next week’s home matches are: Wednesday 10th April – Women’s Albany B vs. Ramsey A and Thursday 11th – Women’s A team vs. Douglas A. All matches will be played on courts two and three starting at 7pm. Supporters are always welcome!

All members who have renewed their membership and new members who have joined are reminded that they are entitled to a FREE ticket in the indoor court’s 25th birthday celebration draw, with a chance to win a voucher for one hour in the indoor court. This court’s covering, when built, was expected to last approximately 20 years but noone knew, as it was one of the earliest built in Britain. So 25 years is something worth celebrating. It has been a blessing for our club and our members, but there will come a time when we will have to have the funds to replace the cover and I do hope everyone will support any fundraising we might need to do.

Club history – is there a member with spare time who could do some Albany history research at the Manx Museum? Maybe a student or a member with an interest in history. The club was formed in the 1920s but I only have reports and photos from the late 1950s and early 1960s. There is potential for a book.
