ALBANY TENNIS NEWS by Pat Sharp

Will as many of our members as possible help a fellow member, Sean Drewry, by completing a survey which he is conducting as part of his final year for his degree. We have always tried to support and encourage our younger members with their studies in various forms. It only takes about seven minutes and it is really easy. One or two questions might make older members stop and think.

The IOMLTA men’s and women’s leagues started last week and the first set of results is encouraging, considering a lot of people are away during the school Easter holiday. In the Women’s division one, our A team drew with Douglas A 3-3. Nice to see our Juniors in league teams – this match included Aalish Kelly (14). In division two Albany B bt. Ramsey A 6/0. In the Men’s division two Albany B drew 3 -3 with Douglas B at Kensington Road. Slightly different age group here! With “Pistol Pete” Dunworth partnering Alastair Montgomery and David Bufton with Paul Reid. If we have new members who would like to be considered for our league teams, please contact Club Captain Jackie Russell (jackierussell@manx.net) as it’s always good to have a few reserves.

There is still time to enter the free ballot for 10 free one-hour sessions, in the indoor court as a celebration of the court’s 25th Birthday. It will be drawn on Saturday 27th April at 1pm. Members and Juniors can enter. Also, please come along on the day – we will be providing refreshments and the outdoor courts will be available for social tennis. Remembering all the hard work fund raising and the opening by Davis Cup player Nick Brown, it brings back lovely thoughts on how far Albany has progressed from playing at Victoria Road and in Nobles Park with a membership of 40 – 50 (all seniors).
