Firstly, many congratulations to our coach Ian Watson and his wife Jan on the safe arrival of their first grandchild on Sunday. Their daughter Sophie and her husband Sam are the proud parents of Seth David and Ian now has another pupil for Mini Tennis! No doubt the club office will be covered in baby photos to keep Grandad happy.
On 5th April the indoor court will officially be 25 years old – although we did start playing in it in the February of 1994. It was officially opened by British Davis Cup player Nick Brown, who had played in the Midland Bank Junior Open tournament at Onchan when he was 16! As a 25th birthday celebration, our Membership Secretary Jan Gaskill has organised a “Free Raffle” with 10 prizes of one hour indoor court vouchers. There will be a book of raffle tickets in the club room and every senior and Junior member (not Mini members) may take ONE ticket only – no charge – please write your name on the ticket stub. You must be a club member for the 2019/2020 season. The draw will be made on Saturday 27th April in the club at 1pm.
The club has a regular, good attendance at the Mini Tennis red ball sessions on Saturdays and we want to encourage parents to take up tennis or revisit the sport. Therefore, we will make two courts available between 12noon and 2pm for some ‘come and try it’ sessions. Parents can have three free sessions on the court, but must at least join as a Parent Associate member after that so they are covered by the club’s insurance if they wish to continue playing with their child/children.
