She’s done it again - another tournament win for 13yrd old Charlotte Clarke! This time she won a grade 4 girls 14&U event. It was more travelling for Charlotte, this time to the Lawn Tennis Association’s HQ at Roehampton near London. This latest venture included returning to Heysham on Sunday night for the 1:45am ferry, but it was worth it. Her results were: 1st rd. – 4/0 4/1 versus a 6.2 player (the same as Charlotte); quarter-final 4/0 4/2; semi-final 4/0 4/1 and in the final she beat the No.1 seed who has a 6.1 rating 4/1 4/0. This result qualified her for a place in a grade 3 event on December 1st and again it’s the long journey to Roehampton. These successes are due to her hard work with her coach, Ian Watson, plus financial support for travel expenses from five companies plus a private donation. I do hope the people involved realise just how much difference this finance has made to her opportunities to play in the UK to gain experience against tougher opposition. We have another five or six juniors who could follow in her footsteps but finance for travel to the UK is quite a barrier. If anyone can suggest a company that I could approach, please let me know.

This Friday and Saturday the Friday Morning Ladies are supporting Children in Need with the sale of Pudsey Bear cakes. Please call in on Friday to enjoy Jan’s baking and make a donation! Parents of the Mini members who will be at coaching on Saturday please remember to bring your spare cash and help Albany raise a lot of money for children who are far worse off than ours.
