The Albany Equiom Junior Open tournament came to a successful conclusion last Saturday with the remaining 12&U, 14&U and 18&U matches played during the week and on Saturday the 8&U, 9&U and 10&U mixed r/r events completed without weather interruption. At the conclusion of play the prizes were presented by Mr Steve Hull on behalf of our generous sponsors Equiom (Isle of Man) Ltd. Special thanks to the umpires for the 8&U matches – Garreth Roome, A.J. Go, Charlotte Clarke, Hadassah Smith and Orry Farnworth. Thank you also to the parents who provided tea. Remaining results 8&U r/r Group A 1st – Magnus Benson – 6 wins, 2nd Ben Wells 5 wins, 3rd Ryan Cliffe – 4 wins, 4th Elias Parry – 3 wins. Group B 1st Advaith Malikreddy - 6 wins, 2nd Rocco Spencer – 5 wins, 3rd Harry leigh – 4 wins, 4th Oliver Neagle 3 wins. Q/finals Magnus bt Oliver 7/1, Ben bt Harry 7/3, Advaith bt Elias 7/1, Rocco bt Ryan 7/4; s/finals Magnus bt Ben 7/2, Advaith bt Rocco 7/3 and in the Final Magnus bt Rocco 10/6. This event showed some excellent tennis from all the very young players. In the 9 & u r/r -1st- Magnus – 5 wins, 2nd - Sonny Shipley-Martin – 4 wins, 3rd Noah Chambers 2 wins, 4th Nabeel Muhammad 2 wins. In the 10 & under r/r 1st Henry Leigh – 5 wins, 2nd Ryan Colquitt 4 wins, 3rd Sophie Christian – 3 wins, 4th Jake Turner - 2 wins. 12 & under Girls r/r winner Sarah Long, r/up Ava Austerberry; 12 & u Boys r/r winner Orry Farnworth r/up Greg Kelly; 14 & u Girls r/r winner Charlotte Clarke r/up Sarah Long; 14 & u Boys r/r winner Roch Mirski r/up Jayden Go; 18 & mixed singles winner Roch Mirski r/up Jayden Go. The next event at Albany is the club’s Senior championships to be held over one weekend – 16th-18th November with a Fast4 format. Entry forms will be e-mailed to all members by the weekend.
Charlotte Clarke was away at the weekend playing in another tournament but having won her first match she had to withdraw as she felt unwell. Once again, I appeal to players and parents to let me have details of UK events planned and results.
As it is half-term there will be no coaching from tomorrow but will restart from Monday 5th November. Check Facebook and the club website for details.
