Reminder to ALL island Junior players – the Equiom Junior Open tournament will be held over two weekends – 12/14 October and 19/20 October. Events are 8&U, 9&U, 10&U, 12&U, 14&U and 18&U Singles plus 14&U and 18&U Doubles. This event is open to Junior players from all Island clubs or even from the UK. Entries close 6pm on Tuesday 9th October, entry fees are singles £5 and doubles £3 per player and event. Each competitor will receive an Equiom sponsors T shirt so please put your size on the entry form. Entry forms have been sent to all the island clubs and are available in the club house. You can enter by e-mail: ianwatsonpts@manx.net or put your form and fee in the club’s white post box. Early entries would be appreciated. Prize presentation scheduled for approximately 4pm on Saturday 20th October.
More good news from Charlotte Clarke’s tournament programme – last weekend Charlotte (13) who is ranked 389 with a 7.1 rating, played in a Grade 4 event at Shrewsbury Tennis Club and won the event despite breaking strings in the warm up and in the s/final. Results Rnd.1 - won 4/1 4/0 vs. a player ranked 8.2; q/f bt. a player ranked 134, 4/0 4/2; s/f bt. a player with 6.2, 4/3 4/0. In the Final she played a very tight match against a player with a 5.2 rating and ranked 196. Winning 0/4 4/2 (10-9). This result has gained Charlotte entry in to a Grade 3 16&u event at Nottingham Trent University at the end of the month.
The travel sponsorship she received from Nedbank Private Wealth, Tower Insurance, Equiom (IOM) Ltd, Cubbin and Bregazzi, Richmond Travel plus a private donor enabled her to play every two weeks in the UK and gain valuable match experience. This paid off and will do so in the future – the tennis world is a tough workplace and players need to learn to cope. UK players are lucky as they sleep in their own beds before an event, don’t have far to travel and go home to Mum’s cooking and their own bed. Meanwhile Manx players are on the boat or hanging around airports, knowing that the trip has cost Mum and Dad a tidy sum and, this is why sponsorship helps. President’s Day – Senior/ Junior tournament is on Sunday 7th October and names can be added to the list in the clubroom. Entry fee – seniors £3, juniors £2 pay on the day. Juniors who have played regular league tennis will play as seniors. Seniors have only one serve per point. Any queries contact 861497.
The sponsors, Auxesia’s photo call had to be postponed and will now be at 1pm this Saturday, with the 12pm and 1pm mini tennis pupils plus all other club Juniors who are available. Please wear your white Auxesia shirts or you can buy one on the day for £8.
