Another successful Lancashire County Championships has come to a close at Bolton Arena with Simon Roberts winning the Men’s Singles for the 12th time, a record 9 years in succession. Simon beat Chris Nott 6-4, 6-1 in the final. The match was great entertainment for the many spectators who gathered to cheer on the players and watch in awe. It was a high quality match for some of the younger players to watch, played in great spirit.
Rachel McCrae won the Women’s Singles title beating Madeline Frediani in the final, this was a great battle showcasing the talent of some of our junior females. Danielle Hock & Simon Roberts defending their Mixed Doubles
Title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rachel McCrae & Jake Thompson. Ladies Doubles winners were County week player Niamh Coveney & partner Emma Rainbird who beat Meggy Hague Foale & Natasha Lomas.
In the Junior events two Robin Park Tennis Centre players Freya Peet & Dylan Sharpe won the 8u Girls & Boys singles titles, while Madeline Frediani played against her Women’s Singles opponents and reversed the result in both the 16u & 18u girls singles finals. In the Seniors events Mark Connelly & Roy Whitehouse won both the over 45 & over 55 doubles titles, while Jill Fernando won the Ladies 35 singles title as well as the 35 mixed doubles partnered with Charles Otigbah and 40 womens doubles with Liz McCrae.
The tournament took place over eleven days and saw over 500 players competing in fifty different events, making it one of the biggest tennis competitions in the country. Congratulations to all the players who competed and thanks to the parents, friends and coaches who came to support.
