Community groups, parish councils and clubs in Harborough can now apply for cash to set up sports projects for young people in the district.
The Sportivate scheme is a £32 million National Lottery programme aiming to capture the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic Games and provide more sporting opportunities for teenagers and young adults, aged between 14 and 25.
Harborough District Council's Sportivate fund aims to provide thousands of pounds for projects in the district next year.
The Sport England cash is designed to provide money for six-week courses where young people can learn skills in a sports including judo, golf, tennis, athletics and free running.
Harborough shares the Leicestershire and Rutland pot of £170,000 a year for four years.
There is no ceiling on bids, which can be made by contacting the district council.
Councillor Blake Pain, the council's cabinet community engagement spokesman, said: "This is a great opportunity for people to be able to provide sports and physical activity for young people.
"If you are in a sports club, it is perfect for boosting numbers or if you are a community group or local instructor looking to deliver some physical activity, this is ideal."
