The Leicestershire Ladies over 40’s county team demolished a very strong Surrey team in the final of the Inter County National play off competition held at Dudley at the weekend.
The team comprising of Anne Meredith, Alison Ison, Jo Pick, Sue McChrystal and Clare Hatto got off to a superb winning start with a win from Alison Ison from Roundhill Tennis Club against Zoe Taylor (daughter of Roger Taylor) by 6-3 6-3.
Former tennis professional Anne Meredith now living in Wakefield followed this with a comfortable win over Alison Taylor 6-1, 6-2.
Victory was sealed on the day by Captain Sue McChrystal of the Leicestershire Tennis Club and partner Jo Pick from Roundhill Tennis Club against a strong doubles combination of Hazel Middleton and Nicola Cooper in 3 sets.
This was an outstanding achievement for the team in their first ever play off final.
