Leicester tennis club hosts open day on eve of Wimbledon

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Gynsill Tennis Club opened its doors to the public for a free open day to mark its 50th birthday this weekend.
Over 50 people visited the club, which is situated in Anstey, to take part in a wide range of fun and free tennis activities on Saturday 22nd June.
For kids there was a chance to play LTA Mini Tennis, which gives children aged between three and ten the perfect introduction to the sport with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls.
Families with even younger children were able to play soft tennis together on court, while adults got the chance to roll back the years and have a hit with wooden rackets to commemorate club’s formation in 1963.
Also on offer was a jazz playing band, a face painting stand, tombola, an ice cream van and a quiz for the whole family to take part in.
Club chairman Janet Brunton said: “It was really wonderful to welcome members and so many new faces down to Gynsill on the eve of Wimbledon to see everything we have to offer as a club.
“We wanted not only to mark this tremendous milestone in the club’s history but also showcase just how inclusive the sport of tennis is, not just to adults, but to children and families, regardless of your ability or past experience.”
