On Thursday 4th February Desford Lawn Tennis Club and East Midland Special Olympic Tennis player Matthew Chilvers, went to County Hall at Glenfield to be presented with his GO GOLD podium award from the Chair of the County Council and Drew Sullivan captain of the Leicester Riders. The aim of GO GOLD is to support talented athletes who are being recognised by their National Governing Bodies of Sport as being our future Olympic, Paralympic, Special Olympic and Commonwealth Games participants.
This builds on Matthew’s successful start to the season. At the Northern Region Tournament held in January, at Leeds, Becketts Park, where Matthew collected a silver in singles and a bronze in doubles.
Matthew was delighted to receive the Go Gold award saying” I‘ve had a solid start to the season and having this support will really help my training, it makes such a big difference, thank you”.
